Description

This book offers a candid assessment of fundraisers' vulnerabilities and opportunities.

What’s behind the low donor retention rates of the average non-profit? What are the strategies that underlie successful annual funds and capital campaigns? When is the 80/20 not 80/20? Is there a shared characteristic among the top 10 individual donors of every non-profit? What’s the relationship between the capacity to give and the inclination to give? What is the number one failure of fundraisers? This content-rich book invites the reader to question and probe . . . then act.

The author, Bill Hautt, served as Young Life's chief development officer (CDO) from 2002 to 2006. He created the fundraising training program, Taking Donors Seriously. Prior to serving as CDO, he was a consultant to Young Life beginning in 1987.

From Jamie Hanson, vice president of International Development
Wow, "Buried Treasure" is awesome! So much practical information and so many great one-liners I still use from my days being mentored by Bill. “Best time to raise money is when you don’t need it." “We don’t leave money on the table because we never leave the table." That may be my biggest take away and conviction from this book. Do we, Young Life, as a relationship-centered organization, are we really serious about relationships with our gospel patrons? We need to be better than the for profit space. Thanks, Bill, for this challenge!
